    Cradle Mountain, Tas - Rebecca Gibney, actress

    Living in Tasmania now we have so many places nearby that are absolutely spectacular but one of our favourites is Cradle Mountain. We have stayed at Cradle Mountain Lodge and Lemonthyme Lodge, and both are wonderfully relaxing.

    We love the area because it's a unique combination of grandeur meeting serenity and is just a two-hour drive from Launceston. Cradle Mountain Lodge is set in rainforest right next to the World Heritage-listed national park, so there are a number of beautiful walking trails you can do with or without a guide.

    Or you can just kick back with a book by the fire and admire the view (or there's always the spa for a great massage!). It reminds you how important it is to save and preserve our environment, staying in a place of such natural beauty.

    The highlight of a stay there is the fact that there is a multitude of terrains to experience, from ancient forests, spectacular outcrops and mountain peaks to alpine plateaus and crystal-clear lakes, rivers and streams.

    Wildlife is everywhere - you can see wombats, wallabies, potaroos and Tasmanian devils when you go out walking - and, combined with the wonderful service (at both lodges), the famous Tassie gourmet food and wine and the Tasmanian people, you have the perfect holiday.

    In the area
    * Overland Track.
    * Two-hour Dove Lake Loop Track.
    * Scenic wilderness flights.
    * Waldheim Alpine Spa at Cradle Mountain Lodge.
    * Fly-fishing in mountain streams.
