Rebecca Gibney says it's daunting being the favourite to take out the top honour at this year's Logie Awards. The
Packed To The Rafters star is tipped to win the Gold Logie for most
popular personality for the second consecutive year, but Gibney says
she isn't so sure it will happen. "I hate it. It's a bit
daunting, because I think I'm a bit of a roughie this year," Gibney
told AAP in Sydney where she is promoting the new Nintendo DS game.
Gibney
says she believes the award will go to veteran actor Ray Meagher, who
has played Alf Stewart on Home and Away for 22 years. "I'm thinking Ray Meagher is going to win, and deservedly so. Absolutely. "Ray is the sentimental favourite. "I couldn't believe it when I heard he's never had a nomination. "He's been around for 40 years and he's one of the nicest men in the business." Gibney says she'd also like to see Spicks and Specks comedian Adam Hills win. "Adam is there all the time and he never gets a go. And he never expects to," Gibney said. "I'd love to see if Adam Hills actually won it what he'd say." Also nominated for the coveted award are Home and Away's Esther
Anderson, The Gruen Transfer's Wil Anderson, Paul McDermott from Good
News Week, Rove McManus, and Shaun Micallef from Talkin' `Bout Your
Generation. Gibney is excited about the TV event, with the
stunning 45-year-old saying she'll channel "old Hollywood glamour" with
a dress from designer Steven Khalil for the second year in a row. And
while she's disappointed that Susan Boyle has cancelled her appearance,
Gibney is thrilled about a soon-to-be announced surprise. "I'm quite excited about the surprise if it is who I think it is," Gibney said. "And I love Bert Newton. He's such an icon, and a legend and to have him hosting again is perfect." The Logie Awards will be held at Melbourne's Crown Casino on May 2.
